As a result of a recommendation from the Norwegian Accident Investigation Board (AIBN) and in accordance with the Eurocontrol Airspace and Navigation Team initiatives, Eurocontrol has performed a feasibility study on altered and harmonised transition altitude in parts of northern-Europe. This study is now being delivered and a safety assessment of proposed changes is underway.

Particularly the North Cape at 71 degrees north is a popular destination during the summer season. Even during wintertime several flying clubs are operating aircraft mounted with skis.

The European Union has adopted a regulation restricting the liquids that passengers can carry in their hand luggage past screening points and then onto aircraft. This comes as a reaction to another threat to civil aviation security stemming from home made liquid explosives.

This regulation was implemented in norwegian legislation 6 November 2006.
